AC Summer Reading 2015- The Book Thief

I should probably finish the paragraph before I update on here. But now that I have, I see that my previous questions as to why Ilsa Hermann hadn't said anything were false. She HAD seen Liesel steal the book, but she was just waiting for the right time. Most likely the right time to expose her as a thief, but I’m not 100% certain. Poor Liesel, she had such an ephori sense of relief when she thought she got away with it.

Update: I found out who she thought had seen her steal the book. It was the Mayors wife, Ilsa Hermann, one of her mama's costumers. When Liesel faced her for the first time after stealing the book to give the woman her bag of cleaned and ironed clothing, she said nothing. Ilsa simply took the bag, examined it, and give Liesel the money, like always. Maybe she hadn't seen her? Maybe it was a figment of Liesel's imagination. Or, maybe Ilsa Hermann was in that spot, but happened to miss the events. They're all a possibility.

Who saw Liesel steal the book from the pile of ashes? Was it Ludwig Schmeikl? She said that "if it had a face, the expression on it would have been one of injury," (Zusak, 122) and they had mentioned 2 chapters ago that Ludwig had crushed his ankle. This section confuses me.

I really feel for Liesel as she’s trying to contact her mother. Over three years ago I was taken away from my mother (when I was 10) and for the first 6 months I desperately tried to get in contact with her, but she would rarely respond.

The Last Night- Skillet

This certain song reminds me of the Book Thief because of Liesel's nightmares. Ever since she arrived at the Hubberman's house, she would have them every night but then Papa would come in and comfort her. That is the main reason Liesel grew so fond of Papa, knowing he was there to comfort her. That and how sweet he was.

This song reminds me of everyone so far. It makes me think of how everyone in this book is so sad and tired of living in constant fear. They all want the struggles to end.

AC Summer Reading 2015- The Book Thief

I am only 101 pages in, and I am already loving this book. I've had this book in my home library for over a year but I never read it because I thought it looked boring. Even when I was only 5 pages in, I couldn't find it in myself to put the book down. Despite only being in Part Two, my favorite section so far was the prologue due to the point of view and the way the content was phrased. I also agreed when he argued that white was a color, because I remember last year in Tech Ed we were arguing about that same topic. It took the entire class period, and we still hadn't come to a conclusion. I am still confused as to WHAT he is in the prologue. He speaks about taking peoples souls and watching them, but he never cordially informed readers as to who he was. It just irks me that he is involved in my favorite section of this book yet I dont even know who/what he is.
